Link of work

ENG

The performance Ror-bu is inspired by the sonic experience of Veronika’s stay in an old fishing house named Kråkeslottet (ie a raven castle) that is located at the very end of the coast of the Norwegian island of Senja beyond the Arctic Circle. It is a traditional type of fishing house that has been used for fish processing for many years.

The word “BU” has different meanings in Norwegian. It is an interjection for intimidation or space in a house designed to store useless items. The name also refers to the traditional type of fishing house Ror-bu, is a place to live or a place to rest. Ror-bu performs field recordings collected during the train journey and a monthly stay on the island. The sound of knitting machines from the museum of strings, the ship Polaris, walks on the beach, wailing wind, frozen rain, hail, creaking stairs, recording of an old piano, etc. The field recordings are accompanied by two anachronistic machines that play fragile eruptions and hazy noises through primitive mechanics, nails, brushes, sand, stones, loop station, and contact microphones.

The sound of matter under the microscope. The performance is acoustically carved with the help of sound sculptures – kinetic objects – sound machines, which the author makes with the use of various mechanisms and using various materials.

Veronika’s approach to working with sound unmistakably reveals its connection with stage design, installation and performance. In her work, she combines the perspectives of space, time and situations. For her, not only the sound itself is important, but also the way it is created on stage. Often this is a direct reaction to certain places in the landscape or architectural spaces.
