International festival PERFORMENSK takes place in Minsk, in Belarus since 2018. It is focusing on the presentation of performative art, in other words live art, which is presented ‘here and now’ in front of the audience. Festival program presents works of artists from such areas as experimental theatre, performance art, sound art and intermedia. The dramaturgy of the festival aims to pay attention at new, hybrid, hard to define works, floating somewhere between the mentioned established forms.
Performensk aims to become a meeting place for the artists from East and West Europe and other parts of the world. In European context, Belarus still stays an unusually closed country so, as organizers of the festival, we aim to contribute to the break of this border and to open up the diversity and specificity of Belarusian/East European art to ‘Westerners’ and vice versa.
The festival brings together international and local artists and by that creates an opportunity for inspiring each other and establishing new collaborations . Also Performensk creates a temporary educational platform to raise the knowledge about contemporary performative art, as well as place for discussion, collective thinking and dialogue.
